CfTE Champions: Partnering with Schools and Local Authorities

The Centre for Teaching Excellence (CfTE) invites schools and local authorities to work with us as CfTE Champions, acting as key points of contact to support engagement with the Centre’s work. CfTE Champions play an important role in strengthening connections among CfTE, schools, and local authorities, helping to ensure that the Centre’s work is responsive, relevant, and grounded in practice.

About the Role

A CfTE Champion is typically a colleague based within a school or local authority who is well placed to act as a local point of contact for CfTE activity. Champions support the flow of information, help facilitate connections, and help embed CfTE work within their context.

This is not a formal or contractual role. Rather, it is a collaborative and flexible partnership, shaped by local priorities and interests.

What CfTE Champions Do

The role of a CfTE Champion will vary depending on context, but may include:

  • Acting as a link between CfTE and their school or local authority
  • Supporting the sharing and dissemination of CfTE opportunities, resources, and events
  • Helping to facilitate engagement with professional learning, research activity, or partnership work
  • Identifying opportunities to connect CfTE activity with local priorities and priorities for improvement
  • Acting as a named contact to support communication and coordination

Working in Partnership

Schools and local authorities operate in diverse contexts, and CfTE is committed to working in ways that are practical, supportive, and responsive. The CfTE Champion role is therefore intentionally flexible, with no prescribed time commitment, but are

part of a broader network of colleagues engaging with CfTE, contributing to a shared effort to strengthen research-informed practice and professional learning across Scotland.

What We Offer

CfTE Champions can expect:

  • Regular updates on CfTE activity, opportunities, and events
  • Opportunities to connect with CfTE networks, including Teacher Associates and Research Hubs
  • A clear point of contact within the Centre
  • Opportunities to contribute to and shape emerging areas of work where appropriate

We would welcome expressions of interest from schools and local authorities who are interested in working with CfTE in this way.
