Welcome to the Centre for Teaching Excellence

The Centre for Teaching Excellence (CfTE) is dedicated to enhancing teaching quality, professional learning, and educational research across Scotland. We are a national centre for Scotland’s teachers, funded by the Scottish Government. Our mission, based on the Scottish Government objectives, is to support teachers, schools, and policymakers in delivering equitable, high-quality education that meets the needs of all teachers in Scotland.

By bringing together expertise from the University of Glasgow’s School of Education and School of Social and Environmental Sustainability, in addition to our colleagues at Sabhal Mor Ostaig and across the education system, we serve as a dynamic hub for innovation, collaboration, and research-led practice.

Whether you are a teacher looking to develop your skills, a school leader seeking impactful professional learning, or interested in research-informed approaches, the Centre provides the research, resources, networks, and expertise to drive meaningful change.

We are committed to working with existing groups and organisations and in particular to working closely with Education Scotland to ensure a coherent national offer. While CfTE supports teachers to access, use and generate teaching-focused research,  Education Scotland will lead curriculum design, delivery and improvement, including the provision of resources to support high quality learning and teaching. In addition, it will continue to support professional learning and have oversight through a national framework as well as working with local authorities to inform approaches to wellbeing, inclusion, behaviour and enabling better support for those with additional support. More information can be found on the Education Scotland website.

Our website will continue to evolve over the coming months, providing insights and updates into the Centre's work and its engagement with teachers across Scotland.
