Creative conversation with Prof Zoë Wicomb

UBelongGlasgow is hosting a creative conversation with Prof Zoë Wicomb on UBelongGlasgow platform, in collaboration with Glasgow Zine Library, and funded by University of Glasgow College of Arts. The event will be on Zoom, on Wednesday 17th March 2021 at 18:30 to 20:00.
Zoë Wicomb, born in 1948, is one of South Africa’s most significant critic and author, currently living in Glasgow, Scotland. She is Emeritus Professor at the University of Strathclyde. She is the author of Race, Nation, Translation: South African Essays 1990-2013 (2019), October (2014), The One That Got Away (2008), Playing in the Light (2006), and You Can’t Get Lost in Cape Town (1987). Wicomb’s short fiction can be found in various anthologies and journals, including Gutter Magazine, the Penguin Book of Contemporary South African Short Stories, and the Heinemann Book of South African Short Stories.
Through her fiction and criticism, Wicomb has explored issues such as apartheid, identity, concepts of home and belonging, and postcolonial representation. She was inaugural winner of the Windham Campbell Literature Prize, among other honours.
We will talk about her most recent novel Still Life (2020), creative writing, and Black literature.
