Postgraduate Masterclass by Professor Fred Cooper

Wednesday 25 October 2023, 10am-1pm

in the McKechnie Rom, 10 University Gardens

After delivering the 2023 Thyssen Lecture in Global History, Fred is staying on to deliver a special “masterclass” for postgraduates on Wednesday 25 October 2023, 10am-1pm, in the McKechnie Room, 10 University Gardens.

Exploring how broader concepts of “vertical” and “horizontal” solidarity can be applied to your own research, participants will be asked to read two short set texts (attached), and prepare a brief 3 minute presentation on how these concepts apply to their own research. The first of these texts offers an insight into how Senegalese intellectual and politician, Leopold Senghor, thought about solidarity; the second, by Fred Cooper, draws on and contextualises Senghor's ideas.

This will be followed by some roundtable workshopping where participants can share research ideas with Fred Cooper and other postgraduates.

Research postgraduates from all disciplines are encouraged to apply by emailing Christelle.leriguer@glasgow.ac.uk
