Shona Floate profile picture

Shona is a doctoral researcher working within English Literature at the University of Glasgow. Her thesis, ‘Remaking the World in the Image of the Queer’: Rethinking ‘normative’ motherhood, explores the queer utopian possibilities within literary representations of motherhood in autofictional texts. Her research investigates how embodied depictions of motherhood can resist and reimagine conventional ideals of mothering. Drawing on queer theory and motherhood studies, this thesis will engage with texts such as The Unfamiliar by Kirsty Logan, Matrescence by Lucy Jones, Rachel Cusk’s Outline trilogy, The Argonauts by Maggie Nelson, Zami by Audre Lorde and Breasts and Eggs by Mieko Kawakami.
