Art Extraordinary Collaboration
Art Extraordinary is a unique collection of Scottish “outsider art” collected by pioneering art therapist and artist, Joyce Laing (OBE).
Since 2012 the University of Glasgow and Glasgow Museums have worked in partnership, with multiple individuals and organizations with lived experience of mental ill-health, to research and showcase the collection.
Our ethos for collaboration is embedded within working with communities and individuals to explore the collection. We are passionate about using the collection to understand more about the lived experiences of mental (ill)health and confinement, and the power of creativity to create spaces for care, understanding, and social justice.
