Within the University of Glasgow, GRG draws on the expertise of a range of internationally recognised research leaders who specialise in areas that intersect with our work on gambling harms.
Prof Rory O’Connor
Prof Rory O’Connor is a recognised authority on suicide and prevention, President of the International Association for Suicide Prevention and a past President of International Academy for Suicide Research. He leads the Suicidal Behaviour Research Laboratory at Glasgow and works closely with the GRG team. He is currently part of the GREO-funded project Assessing risk factors for gambling-related suicidal ideation led by GRG.
Prof Cindy Gray
Prof Cindy Gray is a leading researcher in the field of behaviour change. She specialises in using psychological and sociological theory and collaborations with community organisations to reach and engage underserved groups in sustained health behaviour changes. She is an investigator on the NIHR-funded Football Fans and Betting project , led by GRG.
Prof Graeme Roy
Prof Graeme Roy is an economist with specialisms in public policy and applied economics. He has made substantial contributions to our understanding of economic policy in Scotland. Drawing on work done on the macroeconomic impacts of Scotland’s minimum unit pricing policy on alcohol, Roy is supporting GRG’s macroeconomic work on the societal costs of gambling harms.
Prof Emma McIntosh
Prof Emma McIntosh is a health economist and expert in economic evaluation, evaluating public health interventions, stated preference methods and cost benefit analysis more generally. Emma is collaborating with GRG on the ongoing Global Gambling Control Monitor project.
Dr Susan Batchelor
Dr Susan Batchelor is a criminologist with expertise in gender, youth, culture and crime, with a particular focus on young women and violence. Susan has made leading contributions to research and policy in the area of repeat violent victimisation, and has used this expertise to support GRG’s approach to understanding connections between gambling and violence. Susan collaborating with GRG on the ongoing Global Gambling Control Monitor project.
