Simulating the complex interplay between biology and mechanics

Mechanics plays an important role in biological systems, such as, cardiovascular, skin and nervous system, and at scales ranging from sub-cellular to organ level. Understanding these aspects can help us find new therapeutics and optimise surgeries. We use advanced computational tools for investigating these issues and collaborate with biologists and clinicians. Currently we are studying the role of mechanics in disease development in arteries, heart valves, and skin, and how their properties change with aging. Our research efforts are funded by EPSRC.
