OT Research Testbeds

We operate an experimental research laboratory consisting of multiple Industrial Control System (ICS) testbeds that use real industrial components, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), sensors and actuators, to emulate physical processes that are representative of OT domains (e.g. water management, electrical utilities, etc.). The GCDL currently has three active ICS testbeds; The Glasgow University Liquid Purification (GULP) testbed that emulates a water treatment process, the Glasgow Renewable Electrical ENergy Security (GREENS) testbed representing electricity generation environments and distribution grids, and an ICS training testbed comprising different PLC network topologies and configurations. The ICS laboratory provides a controlled environment in which these testbeds can be used to generate datasets, conduct simulated but representative cyber-attacks, and evaluate novel security architectures.
