We're thrilled to announce the launch of the CVR Translational Hub – a new initiative that will transform how we bridge the gap between groundbreaking virology research and real-world solutions.

Based here at the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research, this interdisciplinary platform represents our commitment to ensuring that world-class fundamental research doesn't stay in the lab, but reaches the people who need it most. CTH brings together three powerful capabilities that live at the heart of the CVR: drug screening, serology, and genomics – creating an integrated approach to tackling viral threats.

The CVR Translational Hub are actively seeking opportunities to identify novel antiviral and immunotherapeutic targets, develop next-generation diagnostic tools, and forge meaningful partnerships with industry, the NHS, and public health organisations. CTH will turn scientific breakthroughs into practical solutions that can save lives and protect communities.

Our drug screening capabilities focus on developing and testing new antivirals and therapeutic candidates, using cutting-edge approaches including systems virology, functional genomics, and artificial intelligence. We're not just discovering potential treatments – we're validating them and supporting their journey through to clinical trials.

In genomics, we're harnessing next-generation sequencing to detect and characterise viral genomes, supporting everything from diagnostic development to pandemic preparedness. Our work includes wastewater-based surveillance for early outbreak detection and the creation of innovative AI tools for drug target discovery and pathogen prediction.

Meanwhile, our serology platform is developing high-throughput assays that will revolutionise how we approach diagnostics, surveillance, and vaccine evaluation – providing crucial insights into population-level immunity and supporting public health responses.

As Professor Emma Thomson, CVR Director, explains: "Establishing the CVR Translational Hub will significantly enhance our capabilities and strengthen the UK's preparedness for future viral threats. By integrating cutting-edge tools – including AI for target discovery and pathogen prediction alongside strong expertise in fundamental virology – we aim to accelerate the translation of research into real-world impact."

Whether you're exploring early-stage research ideas or ready for translational support, we want to hear from you. The CVR Translational Hub represents our commitment to ensuring that the CVR's exceptional research reaches its full potential by creating solutions that directly benefit public health across the wider population.
