We study the neuronal underpinnings of cognitive processes (such as perception, memory, emotion, attention, language, decision-making, consciousness and prediction) across multiple scales, and with multiple techniques, including imaging (3T/7T-MRI), recording (EEG, MEG) and stimulation (TMS).

Cognitive Neuroimaging brings together a multidisciplinary team of neuroscientists. We are dedicated to understanding how the human brain gives rise to complex cognitive functions, in both health and disease.

Our researchers take an integrated cognitive, neuroscientific, and computational approach.  We explore core topics such as:

  • Vision and sensory-motor integration
  • Attention and predictive processing
  • Memory and plasticity
  • Decision-making and social interaction

Our tools and techniques

We develop and apply cutting-edge neuroimaging tools and advanced analysis techniques. These reveal how the brain represents and communicates information about the world.

Our research spans multiple levels of investigation, from single neurons and fine-grained regional activity patterns to complex temporal brain dynamics and behavior.

We specialize in multimodal imaging and the fusion of different recording and stimulation methods such as:

  • EEG-fMRI
  • fMRI-MEG
  • TMS-EEG

Collaborative and translational research

In collaboration with colleagues across MVLS and international partners, we conduct cross-scale, cross-species neuroimaging studies. And we explore how basic science can translate into clinical applications.

While we recognize the power of big data, we also emphasize the importance of reproducibility and understanding individual variability.  These are key to both scientific insight and personalized healthcare.
