Short Description

During this course, students will learn theoretical frameworks of reflective practice and develop practical skills in personal reflection with respect to their learning and professional development. The role of reflection within and techniques for implementing evidence-based practice will also be explored.

Design evidence based protocol (3000 words, 75%).

Course Aims

This course aims to:

■ Provide students with the opportunity to explore the fundamental theories of reflective and evidence-based practice and the different models and tools which are available for their implementation. 

■ Provide students with the opportunity to develop evidence-based practice in a chosen area.

■ Enable students to use reflection to identify learning needs and to utilise evidence-based practice principles in order to address these.

■ Provide students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge through consideration of how changes to practice could be implemented into the workplace and identification of solutions to overcome any associated barriers.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Engage in critical debate about reflective and evidence-based practice and relate this to their own practice.

■ Critically discuss, with reference to the primary literature, an area of their professional practice and develop an evidence-based protocol around this topic.

■ Critically assess potential barriers to implementing evidence based practice.

■ Critically evaluating tacit knowledge, integrating new understanding, and reflecting on how learning has developed current practice and may impact on future professional or personal development.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
