Short Description

This course provides participants with the opportunity to:

■ Promote an awareness of important psychological characteristics of adults as learners taking into account the influence of, for example, culture, ethnicity, gender, age, personality and political climate.

Promote and understanding of theory and research into adult learning and its implications for practice

Assessment

Summative assessment comprises an essay of 2,500 word worth 70%, and a written activity plan of 1500 words, centred on application of theory to reflective practice and/ or analysis of experience with adult learners, worth 30% each.

Course Aims

This course provides participants with the opportunity to:

■ Promote an awareness of important psychological characteristics of adults as learners taking into account the influence of, for example, culture, ethnicity, gender, age, personality and political climate.

■ Promote and understanding of theory and research into adult learning and its implications for practice

 

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

 

■ Evaluate theoretical approaches to the psychology of adult learning

■ Draw links between theory and research in adult learning, as applied to participants' experiences as adult learners and/or adult educators

■ Critically apply key theories of learning in relation to adult learning contexts

■ Compare and contrast psychological theories, exploring how research can be translated into practical guidelines for adult learning practice.

■ Self-reflect on how theory and research facilitate the practitioners' future teaching and learning of adults.

 

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
