Industry links and employability

Utilising the seasonal changes and diversity of habitats present in Southern Scotland and Northern England, this programme will develop student’s skills and experience of the identification, monitoring and assessment of taxonomic groups of international significance. You will be exposed to the latest approaches, techniques, and tools in the quantitative assessment of species and habitats, in addition to the ecological theories and environmental and human factors which underpin these observations, competencies relevant to the work of NGO’s consultancies, governmental agencies, and ongoing academic study/research, among others.

The programme has a substantial focus on the development of laboratory and field skills relevant to a variety of employment paths, which will be developed during regular day-long and residential fieldwork. The location of the Dumfries Campus is ideal for the immersion of learners in a variety of habitats and environments, providing living examples of the ecological theories embedded within their courses, and developing their familiarity with the key methods that will underpin their future careers. These core competencies in taxonomy, identification and environmental monitoring will be achieved in collaboration with practicing experts working in research, consultancy, NGO's, regulatory bodies, and other related organisations.
