Hey! I'm Ivo and I'm originally from Portugal. I'm based at Lancaster University in collaboration with the University of Glasgow, and I'm an immunologist in training. My interest in immunology started during the final year of my BSc degree, where I briefly investigated brain lipid uptake by microglia in Multiple Sclerosis. I then decided to further dive in immunology by pursuing a MSc by Research, during which I investigated inflammation of the pleural cavity, in the context of mesothelioma.
Currently, my PhD project focuses on inflammation of the skin, more specifically, inflammation resolution. Proper resolution of inflammatory responses is crucial. Its dysregulation can lead to conditions like "inflammaging" or psoriasis, which I focus on. We propose that immune cells are more motile during the resolution phase of inflammation and that this has a direct effect on the process. By understanding these mechanisms, I hope to bring some insight to the grey area that resolution of inflammation is in immunology.
Outside of the lab, I enjoy reading, visiting new places and simply enjoying the company of my friends for a casual chat.
