I was born and grew up in Egypt, before completing my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at Glasgow University.
My PhD project focuses on an important class of enzymes called Topoisomerases that are essential for cellular processes including DNA replication. I aim to use a range of biochemical and structural techniques to uncover more about the mechanism by which these enzymes function. Gaining more insight into the structure and function of Topoisomerases can hopefully aid in designing more effective anti-bacterial and anti-cancer drugs that these enzymes are often targeted for.
