Hi, I’m Abbey Begen! I’m currently undertaking a NorthWestBio PhD between the University of Glasgow and the University of Strathclyde. My research focuses on G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), with a particular interest in muscarinic receptors and their role in neurodegenerative diseases.
As part of my project, I’m working to identify where these receptors are localised within the brain and how they’re expressed across different regions. By mapping their distribution and expression patterns, I aim to gain insight into how they contribute to the development and progression of neurological conditions.
Before starting my PhD, I completed my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at the University of Glasgow. I’ve always been fascinated by the molecular mechanisms that drive brain function and dysfunction, and I’m excited to be exploring this area further through my research.
