Charlotte Sprason

- Lancaster University

Hello! I’m Charlotte. As a semi-sporty cat lover, when I’m not cycling to and from the lab or training for the next taekwondo competition, you’ll probably find me curled up around one or both of my super fluffy cats playing some video game or other.
Before beginning my PhD project, my primary areas of interest were the genetic causation of aging and the utilisation of diverse model organisms. It was this interest in unique model organisms that brought me to my current project, where I am learning to combine microbiology, model organisms and beekeeping. My project is aiming to develop probiotic cocktails utilising a C.elegans model to ultimately improve bee resistance to climate change. My experience of being a PhD student and my project may have had its ups and downs so far, but I can say I’m only positively ‘buzzing’ about the future.
