Julia Monserrat

- Lancaster University

My name is Julia, a PhD candidate from Andalucia, Spain. I’m passionate about biotechnology and sustainability. With an extroverted personality, I am known for my talkative nature. I enjoy pole and aerial fitness, travelling, reading fiction, and hiking. I also love the vibrant cultural activities of my city, including Spanish music, dance, tapas, and dressing in the traditional traje de flamenca.

As a biotechnologist, my research focuses on the potential of bacterial microcompartments to develop plant biofactories for sustainable biotechnological applications. Under the supervision of Douglas Orr at Lancaster University and Leighton Pritchard at the University of Strathclyde, my goal is to harness these systems to create environmentally friendly solutions, contributing to a sustainable future.
