Research title: Female victims in the just world: Exploring victim-blaming
Research summary
Hi, I’m Yubo, a PhD student in Criminology at the University of Glasgow. My research explores feminist criminology, with a particular focus on the role of victim-blaming attitudes in shaping societal and legal responses to rape cases in Chinese society. Using an interdisciplinary approach that draws on criminology, sociology, and gender studies, my work examines how the rape myth is reflected in the judicial papers in Chinese legal system.
I’m especially interested in how these attitudes intersect with broader social inequalities, such as gender and race, to perpetuate systemic discrimination. Through this research, I hope to contribute to a deeper understanding of how rape cases are handled in the Chinese context and hopefully to understand more about rape victim support in China.
Before starting my PhD, I completed an MSc in Crime Science at UCL, where my dissertation analysed anti-Asian hate crime during COVID-19 through statistical models. I also earned my BA in Criminology at Lancaster University, with a focus on gender-based violence and hate crime.
If you’re interested in feminist criminology, victim support, or criminal justice in China, I’d love to connect and discuss our shared interests!
