Research title: The role of GPR35 in colorectal cancer development and progression
Research Summary
My research will be focused on the utility of G-protein Coupled Receptor 35 (GPR35) as a predictive biomarker for patients with colorectal (bowel) cancer. In routine clinical practice, the Tumour Node Metastases (TNM) staging system is used to predict outcomes and inform patient treatment plans. However, this does not capture the variation in survival rates for each stage, highlighting the need to find new, tailor-made routes of treatment.
I will be using immunohistochemical (IHC) staining methods to investigate the expression of GPR35 in 2 colorectal cancer patient cohorts and relate this to clinical pathological parameters.
