Research title: Occupational stress and subjective well-being of early career university teaching academics in China and Scotland

Research Summary

Current Research

My PhD research aims to investigate the occupational stress and subjective well-being (SWB) of early career university teaching academics (ECUTA) in China and Scotland, focussing on how cultural contexts influence the experience of stress and the adoption of coping strategies. Drawing on the Job Demands-Resources Model, Coping Theory and Self-Construct Theory, the study explores how specific stressors influence aspects of SWB and how ECUTAs in China and Scotland cope with these stressors through culturally influenced coping strategies. Using qualitative research methods approach, this study aims to identify culturally sensitive and practically effective strategies to support the SWB of ECUTAs. Findings may inform institutional policies and professional development programmes.
