Research title: A Proposed Randomised Controlled Trial on dCXR-CAD for TB Diagnosis Using Personalised Patient-Level Data
Research Summary
I am a PhD fellow on the AIMS-TB Africa study. The study is a randomised controlled trial that will be conducted in Blantyre, Malawi. It intends to answer the question, "Does personalised patient-level data enhance the accuracy and cost-effectiveness of computer-aided detection with digital chest X-ray (DCXR-CAD)?". While DCXR-CAD assists TB diagnosis, current models often lack accuracy for heterogeneous populations, including children, HIV-positive individuals, and people with previous lung disease. This study will compare personalised DCXR-CAD against standard DCXR-CAD to assess diagnostic accuracy and cost-effectiveness. By integrating individual data like age, HIV status, and previous lung disease, the trial aims to improve case detection yields and inform national policy for sustainable TB screening in Malawi and other resource-limited settings.
