Six UofG staff join Young Academy of Scotland

The RSE Young Academy of Scotland (YAS) has announced the appointment of 48 new members, and six members of University of Glasgow staff are among them.
The RSE Young Academy of Scotland (YAS) has announced the appointment of 48 new members, and six members of University of Glasgow staff are among them.
The group represents some of the nation’s most innovative young professionals from business, the public sector, the charity sector, the arts, and research and academia.
They will join the academy’s existing members in realising its vision of achieving transformative societal change through citizenship, innovation, collaboration, evidence, and leadership.
The six new members from the University of Glasgow are:
Dr Gilles Bailet: Lecturer in Space Technology, James Watt School of Engineering
Dr Daniela Castro-Camilo: Senior Lecturer in Statistics, School of Mathematics & Statistics
Dr Emma Gordon: Lecturer in Applied Ethics, School of Humanities
Dr Raneem Knaj: Research Fellow in Engineering, James Watt School of Engineering
Dr Ashley Lewis-Cole: Learning & Teaching Strategy Manager - Curriculum for Life (C4L)
Dr Samuel Owusu Achiaw: Research Associate, School of Health & Wellbeing
Caroline Müellenbroich, co-chair of YAS said: “I am delighted to welcome this incredible group of new members to The Young Academy of Scotland. Each of these individuals brings unique talents and expertise to YAS, and I look forward to seeing them combine their knowledge to create projects which address the many challenges facing Scotland and the world.
“We are particularly pleased to see our At-Risk Academic and Refugee membership programme continue to flourish, and we are proud to welcome inspiring leaders from Scotland’s asylum seeking-communities into our membership.”
YAS Alumni, YAS Advisory Group member, and Chief Executive of Scottish Futures Trust, Peter Reekie, said: “As a member of its first ever cohort, I’m delighted to welcome another outstanding group to YAS. Membership gave me a fantastic platform to build connections and share ideas with professionals and academics I’d never usually come across. I’m sure this new cohort will do the same and continue to develop projects that will bring real benefits to Scotland and the world.”
