Professor Sara Carter OBE FRSE FAcSS will step down as Head of the College of Social Sciences at the University of Glasgow later this year.
Professor Carter has served as Head of College since October 2019 and will remain in post until this Summer. In addition to her role as Head of College, Professor Carter has served as the University’s Gender Equality Champion, providing strategic leadership and advocacy to improve gender equality.
Prior to joining the University of Glasgow, Professor Carter was Associate Principal at the University of Strathclyde.
Professor Carter said: “It has been an honour to lead this fantastic and successful College over the past seven years. Over this time, we have dramatically increased our research scale and impact and provided outstanding education for many thousands of students. I would like to thank the College Management Group and all the staff in the College for their incredible contribution.”
Professor Andy Schofield, Principal of the University of Glasgow, said: “Sara has been a fantastic leader and Head of College, and I am delighted that she will continue as an influential and inspiring academic within the University of Glasgow.
I want to thank her for her leadership and dedication as Head of the College of Social Sciences and as Gender Equality Champion. In these roles, Sara championed world-class, socially relevant research, ensured excellent teaching aligned to societal needs, and worked tirelessly to advance gender equality across our community.
“Her contribution to the University community and to the realisation of our strategic vision has been outstanding.”
There will be opportunities for the University to pay thanks to Professor Carter over the coming months.
The University will now begin the recruitment process for Sara’s successor as Head of College, which will begin next week, and we are seeking candidates both internally to the University of Glasgow and externally. We are being helped in the search by Anderson-Quigley.
The role of Gender Equality Champion will be reassigned to a member of the University’s Senior Management Group in due course.
