New vice-principal of internationalisation appointed

Professor James Conroy has been appointed as Vice-Principal, Internationalisation.

The University of Glasgow has appointed Professor James Conroy as Vice-Principal, Internationalisation. He will take up his appointment in the New Year. The position is regarded as a key role, given the critical importance of internationalisation to the University's overall strategy.

Professor Conroy is presently based at the School of Education, within the University’s College of Social Sciences. He is Dean for European Strategy and Engagement and Professor of Religious and Philosophical Education. His new appointment will be for a period of five years in the first instance.

This is an exciting time for the University as it engages with the dynamic and demanding landscape of international higher education and it is a privilege to be a part of it.”

Jim will bring his considerable experience as academic, senior university manager and International Dean to the role. Professor Conroy has previously held the posts Dean of the Faculty of Education, Head of Graduate School and Head of Department of Religious Education at the University.

Before joining the University of Glasgow he was Director of Religious Education and Pastoral Care at St Andrew's College and Senior Lecturer in Theology and Religious Education at St Mary's College, Strawberry Hill; and has taught in schools and adult education in England. He has published extensively in the areas of religious education, religion, education and liberal democracy and education and the literary and aesthetic imagination.

The Vice Principal, Internationalisation will drive the University of Glasgow’s internationalisation strategy. This includes the recruitment of international students, promoting an international experience for Glasgow students, facilitating effective international teaching and research links, developing international partnerships and collaborations, including significant strategic international partnerships.

It also includes accountability for the attraction and retention of internationally leading staff, the promotion of a culturally diverse community, and maximising the impact and effective engagement of staff in the delivery of the global reach and reputation agenda.
