Four student journalists from the Glasgow Guardian have won awards at The Herald’s 14th Annual Scottish Student Press Awards.
Harry Tattersall Smith scooped the Student Journalist of the Year award and also Best Sports Writer at the ceremony in the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) in Glasgow.
His prize is a four-week internship at The Herald and £500 in cash. The best news writer category, awarded in memory of the late Herald journalist and former Glasgow University student Calum Macdonald, was won by Sarah Smith, while in the new category of best columnist, Ruaraidh MacIntyre was victorious.
A spokesman for the University said: “We’d like to congratulate the four student journalists on their triumph at The Herald student journalism awards. It is an excellent achievement and we are sure they could have a bright future in journalism ahead of them.”
