Applications to Glasgow increase by double the national average

Undergraduate applications to study at the University of Glasgow have leapt up by 14.4% compared to last year. The figure is almost double the national average.

Undergraduate applications to study at the University of Glasgow have leapt up by 14.4% compared with last year. The figure is almost double the national average.

Among the 20 major research-intensive Russell Group universities in the UK which include the London School of Economics, Oxford, Cambridge and Edinburgh Universities, Glasgow has seen the largest increase in applications.

Professor Andrea Nolan, Vice Principal of the University of Glasgow said: "The latest figures for undergraduate applications to Glasgow University are very encouraging. They are an indication that the outstanding quality of teaching and student experience offered at Glasgow is widely recognised among prospective students."

Figures show that applications to Glasgow have risen from 22,195 in 2008 to 25,400 in 2009.

The national average for all undergraduate applications to UK universities is 7.7%.
