An exciting multi-disciplinary music exhibition, Sound Thought, will launch on 23 November.

The exhibition will showcase an array of new music performances and research by postgraduate students from the Department of Music at the University of Glasgow. The two day event will include performances of compositions, improvisation performances and research papers as well as the opportunity to discuss all aspects of the exhibition.

Event organiser Drew Hammond said: “A lot of the work produced by postgraduate students in the Music Department is never seen outside the academic environment which is a shame considering the range and standard of the work produced. We wanted to organise an event that would allow members of the public access to both musicological research and composition in a similar way to the Glasgow School of Art's degree show."

Highlighting the diversity of research and creative practice within the department, contributions to the showcase include new compositions performed by the Edinburgh Quartet, performances of electroacoustic works diffused over a ten-speaker system, as well as research papers on 18th Century fiddle music and an investigation into the works of the 1960s New York conceptual art group Fluxus.

Musicians already well-known on the music scene will also be contributing including Joanna Shaw, Laurina Sableviciute and Lesley Bell.

The showcase will be held on Friday 23 November and Saturday 24 November. Further details on the exhibition can be found at www.soundthought.info or by emailing Drew Hammond at soundthought@googlemail.com
