A unique Modern Apprentice at University of Glasgow

Archie Henderson (18) from the University of Glasgow's Hunterian Museum is the only modern apprentice working in numismatics (the study of coins) in the country. He appears on the front cover of the latest issue of Modern Apprenticeships Bulletin.

Dr Sally-Anne Coupar, Curator of Coins at the Museum and Archie's supervisor said, "Archie has worked really hard and done very well since joining us two years ago at the age of 16. This Modern Apprenticeship has been a fantastic opportunity which he has embraced wholeheartedly.

As well as working with the world famous coin collection, Archie has also done such diverse things as help remove our resident mummy, the Lady Shep-En-Hor, from her sarcophagus for a conservation assessment and handled live snakes."

Alison Fenton, Training Manager with responsibility for the Modern Apprenticeship programme within the University of Glasgow is delighted with Archie's progress. " Since Archie joined the University, he has developed into a confident, articulate young man who is very enthusiastic about his work. This is what the Modern Apprenticeship programme is all about".

Archie who attended Paisley Grammar and is from Ibrox in Glasgow is one of two Modern Apprentices in Cultural Heritage at the University working towards an SVQ (Scottish Vocational Qualification) level 3 and one of 25 000 across Scotland.
