The University will host a conference looking at Scottish Enlightenment thought and its impact on the development of Human Rights and International Law

Thursday 23 May and Friday 24 May will see a host of key speakers taking part in a conference organised by the University of Glasgow's School of Law looking at Scottish Enlightenment thought.

Primarily focused on legal thought, the conference will discuss its wider impact both in a national context and on the subsequent development of Colonialism, Human Rights and International Law.

An international gathering of historians, legal historians, philosophers and international lawyers from the UK, Ireland, USA and Australia will be participating.

Topics will range from Wilfrid Prest of the University of Adelaide on 'The Enlightened Blackstone: Architecture and Education' to David Kennedy from Harvard Law School on 'Global Governance and the Politics of Expertise'.

In addition, Thomas Franck of New York University will present 'Look Back in Awe: How a 21st century Human Rights Advocate regards the Scottish Enlightenment.'

The conference will take place in the University of Glasgow Senate Room
