The Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation is delighted to announce that the winner of their research fellowship for the year 2000 is Dr Luke Chamberlain BSc(Hons) PhD from the University of Glasgow, Division of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology in the Institute of Biomedical & Life Sciences. This is a post-doctoral award to a scientist for non-clinical research studies that are relevant to diabetes.

Dr Chamberlain won the award against strong competition and, as the very first DRWF Research Fellow, will be working on molecular/biochemical aspects of the diabetic condition ("Identification of caveolar proteins regulating insulin- stimulated Glut4 translocation in adipocytes") for the next three years.

Dr Chamberlain is an outstanding young researcher whose work fully justifies his being the recipient of this award, and the charity is proud to have its name associated with him.

The next fellowship award offered by the charity will be the

DRWF Research Fellowship 2002 (post-doctoral, clinical) for research related to causes, complications or possible cures for diabetes.

Applications will be invited around mid-April 2001.
