Union Meetings

Branch Meetings

Branch meetings are held no less often than once per quarter, on the Gilmorehill Campus or via Zoom. The time and location of the meeting is variable and will be sent out to all members with at least one week's notice, along with the agenda, minutes of the previous meeting, and any relevant reports.

These meetings shall be open to all members, and is the primary forum for the membership to steer the activities of the union.

At these meetings, an overview of union business and negotiations shall be discussed.
The Secretary reports on any correspondence and membership numbers, the Treasurer reports on branch finances, and the wider membership discusses any relevant business.

The next AGM is to be held on Thursday 22nd February 2024.

 

Reps Meetings

The reps committee meet monthly via Zoom.

Though this is a forum for reps, any lay member wishing to attend is warmly welcomed.

Issues discussed include local representation and negotiations, reports from regional/national meetings, training needs, reports from meetings with management.

 

JULC (Joint Union Liaison Committee)

This is a committee of reps from Unite, Unison, UCU, and GMB at the University, who discuss matters that affect all four unions and makes nominees to certain groups and committees. Unite sends two delegates.

RISC (Regional Industrial Sector Committee)

This meeting is held typically once per quarter, and is comprised of delegates from universities across Scotland.

Delegates discuss the broad issues facing their institution, determine and write policy for the education sector, and writes motions for higher union bodies.

NISC (National Industrial Sector Committee)

This meeting is held typically once per quarter, and is comprised of delegates from RISCs across the UK. It is also referred to as the NEIC, the National Educational Industrial Committee.

Delegates discuss the broad issues facing their region, determine and write policy for the education sector, and writes motions for higher union bodies.
A subgroup of the NISC also takes part in the national pay negotiations with UCEA

Scotland Region Delegate:  Steward Forrester and Tanya Forsyth (both University of Strathclyde Branch)

 

GTUC (Glasgow Trades Union Council)

Glasgow Trades Union Council was established in 1857 to bring together trade unionists who live or work in the area to share knowledge and experience, to build solidarity, and to provide mutual support.
Meetings are held typically 4-5 times a year, and is comprised of delegates from trade unions across Glasgow.

Delegates discuss the broad issues facing their institution, appeal for support and solidarity for different causes, organising the annual May Day march and rally, and promotion of the trade union movement across Glasgow.
