This October, as part of Black History Month, the University of Glasgow is delighted to welcome Dr Paul Campbell as our Racial Justice Series keynote speaker, where he will be speaking race, gender and anti-Black racisms within sports video games. Dr Campbell will also deliver a dedicated masterclass on race and assessment.
This year's national Black History Month theme is "Honouring Our Communities". This is a call to recognise the individuals whose everyday contributions shape, support and sustain Black life and communities across the UK. Dr Campbell's visit gives us a timely opportunity to connect that theme directly to our own institutional practice, particularly in relation to racial equity in assessment and student outcomes.
Racial Justice Series
Wednesday 21 October (time and venue to follow)
Dr Campbell will lead this session as part of our ongoing Racial Justice Series, exploring the structural and systemic dimensions of racial inequity in sport.
Masterclass: Race and Assessment
Thursday 22 October (time and venue to follow)
A practical, evidence-based masterclass exploring how assessment practices contribute to the degree awarding gap, and what colleagues can do to design more racially inclusive assessment. This builds directly on Dr Campbell's award-winning research and his work supporting universities across the UK to close equity gaps.
Further details on venues and booking will be shared shortly. Please keep an eye on internal comms and the EDI pages.
