Nominations for Honorary Awards

Members of staff may nominate individuals for the award of an Honorary Degree or Honorary Fellowship. Honorary awards recognise outstanding contributions to society, education, research, public life, the arts, industry, or the University itself.

The next call for nominations for the award of honorary degrees will take place in August 2026.

Nominations for Honorary Fellowships

A nomination for the award of an Honorary Fellowship of the University of Glasgow may be made at any time by completing the nomination form available at the link below.

Conditions of Eligibility
An Honorary Fellowship will not normally be conferred on an individual holding office within the University, except in recognition of long service or an outstanding contribution. Applications submitted by, or on behalf of, individuals seeking nomination will not be considered.
Nominations Procedure

Each August, Heads of Colleges are invited to submit nominations for the award of an Honorary Fellowship of the University.

Nominations submitted by members of staff are reviewed by the relevant Head of College and senior colleagues before being forwarded to the Honorary Degrees Committee for consideration.

If approved by the Committee, nominations are submitted to Senate for consideration and subsequently to the University Court for approval.

Arrangements for the Award

Honorary Fellowships are normally conferred at a significant University event attended by the Principal and other senior University officers. Arrangements for the conferral of awards are coordinated by the Graduation and Ceremonial Events Team in conjunction with the appropriate College.
