Provision of XR services

Realities and Immersion Glasgow (RIG) supports researchers requiring specialist XR expertise and infrastructure across the full research lifecycle from prototyping and content creation through to data collection and dissemination/public engagement. We can help if:

• Your project requires 3D content or specialist 3D software.
• Your project requires immersive environment design, virtual simulation, or interactive XR application development (VR, AR, or MR).
• Your project involves participant-facing data collection in immersive environments and controlled, bookable lab settings with technical support.
• You require high-fidelity digital capture of physical objects or environments.
• Your project involves 360° video capture for immersive research outputs, training scenarios, or public engagement events.
• You wish to access XR hardware (headsets, peripherals, capture devices) on a short-term rental basis.
• Your grant proposal requires specialist XR technical support or costings and you need assistance scoping and articulating XR requirements for funders.

Access to this service

Liaise with the RIG team as early as possible to agree resource needs and estimate costs.

Costs

• Buy-out is based on salary costs of corresponding specialism – typically G7.
• Research software development / 3D modelling charge c. £400 per day per staff member.
• Lab rental (for teaching or research), inclusive of technical support c. £366 per day.
