Provision of cloud services

The Infrastructure and Cloud team, with the RCaaS team, offers brokered and facilitated access to Microsoft Azure and other cloud services for research projects requiring flexible, on-demand computing and storage, with consolidated billing chargeable to project budgets, if:

• Your workload requires elastic scaling or rapid provisioning.
• You wish to integrate with cloud-native tools (e.g., AI/ML services, databases, collaborators’ systems).
• Your project is unsuitable for HPC batch processing.
• You wish to deploy Trusted Research Environments or secure data workflows.

Access to this service

Liaise with the RCaaS / IS Infrastructure and Cloud teams as early as possible to agree resource needs and estimate costs (cloud usage incurs consumption-based costs that can scale rapidly).

• We can discuss configuration and onboarding.

Costs

These services are costed based on resource consumption within Azure.

• It is possible to create a reservation, paying in advance for anticipated cloud usage, although otherwise applicable discounts may not be available with this model.
