Provision of CARDS support

RCaaS and the Infrastructure & Cloud team offer centrally managed, enterprise-grade data storage services designed for use by research projects in progress where:

  • Your research data volumes are expected to exceed ~20GB and/or experience significant growth.
  • Your research data requires controlled access by multiple collaborators.
  • Your project requires reliable backup, resilience and long-term integrity.
  • Standard solutions such as OneDrive or SharePoint offer insufficient capacity or features.

Access to this service

Proposal stage:

  • We can liaise with you when writing your research proposal to help with estimating storage requirements and costs.

Following notification of award:

  • We can help you to agree on allocation and management of data storage.

Longer-term storage: please contact us no less than three months before the project end date to agree to the transition of your data to longer-term storage.

Costs

Data storage will be charged based on an allocated volume of storage (c. £100 / TB / year).

  • Additional costs will be charged by default for backup services (c. £75 / TB / year). These costs can be opted out of where resilience is not required.
  • A modest allocation (up to 1TB, backed up) will be available to projects at no cost.
