Events will be held to mark World Antibiotic Awareness Week, 13-19 November 2017.

World Antibiotic Awareness Week takes place this year from 13-19 November 2017. Events to raise money for Antibiotic Action and Antibiotic Research UK will be held across campus, with all donations up to £500 matched by the Robertson Trust.

"Think Twice. Seek Advice."

World Antibiotic Awareness Week is a campaign led by the World Health Organisation to raise awareness of the threat of antibiotic resistance, which occurs when bacteria become resistant to antibiotic medicines. These bacteria may infect humans and animals, and the infections they cause are harder to treat than those caused by non-resistant bacteria. Antibiotic resistance leads to higher medical costs, prolonged hospital stays, and increased mortality.

This year’s theme "Think Twice. Seek Advice" highlights the importance of seeking the advice of a healthcare professional before taking antibiotics. This not only ensures that you are receiving the best treatment, but responsible use of antibiotics will also help to reduce the threat of antibiotic resistance.

A full programme of events will be released shortly. Follow @UoGAAW2017 for updates.
