UofG teacher receives prestigious French honour

The title of Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques was bestowed on Dougal Campbell at an awards ceremony at UofG.

Dougal Campbell, who teaches French at the University of Glasgow was presented with a medal and the title of Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques at an awards ceremony held at the University on 27 April.

The medal was presented by the French Consul, M. Emmanuel Cocher. The day also marked the Consul’s first visit to campus.

Dougal received the award in recognition of his services to French education and the promotion of French culture.

The prestigious honour acknowledges his merits, talents, and exemplary activities in teaching French. ‌

Dougal said: “The ceremony was a delight. As my wife Morag put it, ‘Normally you have to wait until you’re dead to hear such nice things about yourself.’"

Roibeard O Maolalaigh , Head of the College of Arts, said:  “It is dedicated teachers like Dougal who consistently inspire our excellent students with a love of their subject, providing them with the best possible learning experience and making the College the centre of excellence it is for teaching and learning in the arts and humanities.”
