Alan McGregor, Professor of Economic Development in the Adam Smith Business School, has been awarded a grant by the UK Carnegie Trust to consider the implications of Brexit at the UK level for ‘Fulfilling Work’. This is one Carnegie’s three Thematic Priorities in relation to its 2016/2020 strategy. There are three components to this:
- The quality of work.
- Access to good quality work for different groups of work population.
- The relationship between work and well-being.
The study will focus on trying to identify:
- The threats in relation to ‘Fulfilling Work’ and the policies and interventions required to mitigate these threats.
- Any opportunities arising from Brexit, and what needs to be done by government and agencies to make sure these opportunities are fully exploited.
The study will not address the questions of whether or not Brexit is a good thing for the UK, or whether ‘soft’ Brexit is more advantageous than the ‘hard’ approach. The focus is on making the best of the eventual outcome in relation to the ‘Fulfilling Work’ agenda.
