Dr Matthew Maycock and Sheela Tripathee from the Social and Public Health Sciences Unit have been raising money to help the victims of the earthquake in Nepal.

Dr Maycock has regularly been visiting Nepal since 1997 and spent a year there to carry out fieldwork for his PhD. Sheela Tripathee a PhD student, is originally from Chitwan in southern Nepal.

Together Sheela Tripathee and Dr Maycock organised a lunch which raised £480 for the Oxfam Nepal Earthquake Appeal. Further fundraising events are being planned for the end of the month.

Dr Maycock said: “Continued contributions to the appeal remain vital, as this will ensure that the humanitarian response to the earthquake reaches remote communities before the monsoon arrives around a month.”
