Estates and Buildings' Niall MacCallum tells how the University's stunning Bute Hall was given a seven week makeover.

This summer Estates and Buildings trades staff undertook a refurbishment of the grade A-listed Bute Hall over a seven week period, writes Estates & Buildings' Niall MacCallum.Bute Hall refurb

Using specialist paints to match the original colours, the painters worked a variety of different shifts throughout the duration of the project to ensure the work was completed on time. Paint analysis carried out some years ago established that the original paint scheme for the hall was based on the heraldic colours of the Marquis of Bute: blue (azure), red (gules), silver (argent) and gold (or).

The project was lead by Maintenance Services Supervisor Andy Dragsnes and also involved erecting, dismantling and moving 10 tonnes of scaffolding around the hall to give the painters and plasterers safe access to high level areas.

The project was completed on time, within budget and has resulted in the prestigious hall having a much fresher appearance.
