Published: 25 October 2013

Sport and Recreation and Mountain Aid have organised a briefing on the challenges of venturing on to the Scottish mountains during the winter months. The date for your diary is Wednesday 27 November.

Event: Mountain Aid Winter Safety talk

Date:  Wednesday 27 November

Time:  1930

Venue: Western Infirmary Lecture Theatre

This is a FREE event organised by Sport and Recreation and Mountain Aid. Tickets are limited and demand is expected to be high. Contact Davie.Watt@glasgow.ac.uk to secure your seat.

Mountain Aid is a charity whose aims are to help injured hill walkers, to support mountain rescue activities and to promote mountain safety initiatives.

With the latter objective in mind, Mountain Aid arranges talks around the country in late Autumn to highlight the challenges in venturing on to our mountains in winter, compared with hill walking in summer. This is especially relevant after a spate of tragic accidents in the Scottish mountains in the last 12 months, some of which could have been avoided. Yet days on the hills in winter, though shorter, can be particularly rewarding and we are pleased to have Mick Tighe, a professional Mountain Guide and long time member of Lochaber Mountain Rescue team to brief you on the opportunities that exist for those suitably equipped and experienced.

Mick’s talk comes with superb illustrations of the best and worst conditions you may face and gives good practical advice on how to deal with these, supported by a wealth of personal anecdotes.

We guarantee you will find it both entertaining and educational. We hope you will find it inspiring.

Once again, admission is free and Cotswold Outdoor who are supporting the initiative, have kindly donated some raffle prizes.
