The University is pleased to announce that registration for the second University of Glasgow Internationalisation Conference is now open.

The conference will take place in the Gilbert Scott (main) Building on Thursday, 14 November 2013. The conference is open to all members of the University community and will be a forum for sharing practical advice to support staff in their internationalisation activities. The conference will focus on the following themes:

1. International mobility and employability:

A key goal of the Internationalisation Strategy is to enhance the student experience by offering a culturally diverse learning environment that prepares students for global employment and citizenship. Mobility and employability are centre stage at University of Glasgow as we move forward with our innovative new Strategy for Creating International Experiences for Students (SCIES). Staff mobility is also beneficial in exposing colleagues to different approaches to learning and teaching and student engagement, which can influence the University of Glasgow.

2. International partnerships and collaborative working:

Sustainable international partnerships and institutional alliances enhance the University of Glasgow's education and research capability, and are at the heart of our effort to extend global reach and reputation. The University of Glasgow’s efforts to enhance international partnership working are starting to bear fruit in a number of areas. The challenge now is to build on these successes to embed partnership working more broadly across the University.

3. Supporting and promoting excellence through internationalisation:

Excellence in research and in the student experience are key strands within Glasgow 20:20, and the internationalisation of teaching and research can be a significant contributor as education becomes more globally accessible. The cultural diversity of the student and staff body can influence curriculum content and design, and approaches to academic practice. Advances in technology can bring about changes in approaches to teaching, to research techniques and skills and in how and what we communicate, including promoting the University's rich heritage and archival resources in building new international connections and partnerships.

The conference format will be a mixture of small sessions or workshops with plenary keynote sessions.  I hope that smaller sessions will facilitate discussion and interchange among the participants, and the overall conference format will contribute to the sharing of knowledge amongst University staff.

Staff are able to attend for a full day or only for the sessions that interest them.
