This year’s Sir Alexander Stone lecture in rhetoric will take place on Wednesday 27 November from 1815-2000 in the Sir Charles Wilson Building. Award winning journalist, broadcaster and author John Mackay  will give his thoughts on From Ceefax to Citizen Journalism – the moving media landscape of the past quarter century.John MacKay 200

John is the main presenter on STV News at Six and Scotland Tonight and has reported on most of the significant stories in Scotland of recent times, including the creation of the Scottish Parliament, the Dunblane Shootings, the Lockerbie Bombing, the G8 Summit and the Independence Referendum debate. He has been the face of STV News for more than ten years and has anchored the programme from the scenes of major stories across Scotland and Europe.

A graduate of the University of Glasgow, he edited the student newspaper the GU Guardian. He began on ‘The Sunday Post’ at D.C. Thomson, before joining BBC Scotland where he worked across news, current affairs and sport on both radio and television. His career has covered the leap from the hot-metal press to the instant communication of blogging and tweeting. John is also the author of three bestselling novels, The Road Dance, Heartland and Last of the Line (all published by Luath Press)
