Glasgow to Host UConn HESA Students

Published: 24 May 2013

From 20 May 2013, the University of Glasgow will host a new student international exchange opportunity for students from the Higher Education and Student Affairs Masters programme at the University of Connecticut.

The University of Glasgow is hosting a new student international exchange opportunity for students from the Higher Education and Student Affairs Masters programme at the University of Connecticut. Students will attend a three-week study placement within Student Services at Glasgow, working on a project around our performance in the International Student Barometer.

The HESA international experience is a unique programme at Connecticut, designed to address the growing internationalisation of higher education. The programme provides second year Masters students with the opportunity to spend time during the summer immersed in the administrative culture of a fellow Universitas 21 university, where students address a problem of practice posed by the partner institution. The international experience will emphasise the application of higher education and student affairs concepts in a global context. Group of HESA students on study visit

Students will work as a team alongside student services professionals at the University of Glasgow to address a problem of practice at UG and deepen practitioner understanding of the issue at hand. Using information from the International Student Barometer and face-to-face interviews, the HESA group will investigate the experience of international students at UG to provide insight on how to best serve this unique student population. Following on from this practical experience, the students will return to study the HESA course on International Dimensions of HE and Student Affairs, allowing them to connect theory with practice in the context of challenging real-world situations. They will also prepare an Action Report detailing the results of the project undertaken in Glasgow and present their findings to the HESA community and representatives from the partner institution.

Glasgow welcomes the HESA students to Glasgow and we look forward to developing the UConn/Glasgow partnership in order to maximise opportunities for reciprocal programmes of exchange and international experience.
