The University's Director of Human Resources, Christine Barr, has confirmed that the 2013 pay award to staff will be made effective from January.

In a statement she said four of the five recognised trade unions (UCU, UNISON, Unite and EIS) remained in dispute with University employers over this year's proposed 1% pay uplift, while the GMB had voted by a small majority reluctantly to accept the offer.

She said: "Further to recent advice from UCEA, the employer's side, the  University intends to implement the pay award to staff effective from January 2014, with arrears backdated to 1 August 2013.  This is consistent with practice in other higher education institutions in the sector.  Eligible staff should receive the pay and arrears in their January salary payment."
