The 2013 ECR Workshop will take place between 2-3 December 2013 at the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico. This two-day programme brings together Early Career Researchers (ECRs) from across the U21 network, and is aimed at those within the first eight years of their post-doctoral career (see eligibility criteria below). The broad discipline heading of ‘Technology’ will provide an opportunity for attendees to share knowledge and current projects which are at the cutting edge of research around the world in fields such as Information Technologies, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, Material Science, Biotechnology, Energy, amongst others. Social Science and business specialists are also welcome to create a multidisciplinary environment.

The key objective of this workshop is to increase the research capabilities of ECRs, and to help them to develop skills associated with career development in academia. The workshop will also have a strong focus on networking, designed to ensure attendees gain an international perspective on the role and career route of researchers. The programme will include small group working, talks by established U21 researchers, poster sessions, a keynote address, and sessions with multi-national perspectives on:

• How to develop top-level research

• How to increase impact in your research

• How to increase fundraising

• How does Intellectual Property help your research?

Nominations are invited from ECRs that:

• are undertaking research in any area related to Technology including all cross-disciplinary approaches involving science, engineering, policy, economics, or any other field.

• were awarded their PhD within the last 8 years; this definition is flexible, with each university having the discretion to nominate ECRs who fall outside this definition.

• Glasgow will support at least 3 fully-funded ECR places, including travel, accommodation and workshop fees.

The deadline for applications is Friday 27 September 2013. Please send completed forms to: Sarah.Ward@glasgow.ac.uk
