Forensic Medical Sciences course

Published: 13 August 2013

A part-time evening course in Forensic Medical Sciences will start in October.

The course has been run for almost 25 years now and offers a distance learning facility to allow participants to take part in the course from home via an internet link.

It covers a broad range of topics within the general theme of forensic medical sciences which prepares one who wishes to take Diploma in Forensic Medical Sciences offered by the Society of Apothecaries in London.

However, it is equally open to those simply wishing to attend such a course in its own right without sitting an examination at the end or for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) purposes.

The course is open to anyone with a relevant University degree or professional qualification and should be of particular interest to practitioners in medicine, science and the law, emergency services personnel and students.

Some of the main subject areas covered are:

• Injuries and their interpretation
• Investigation of a crime scene
• Role of the Procurator Fiscal and the defence advocate
• DNA technology in forensic investigation
• Fire investigation and explosions
• Forensic anthropology and related sciences
• Drugs of abuse
• Forensic Psychiatry
